Sailing

I am not a good sailorman, yet I like it. I like the wind in the face, being washed by the waves.

I like the salt, the smell of seaside, rusty ironworks left away...

I like to feel exhaust after a hard day spent day on the sea, strong wind and strong sea; or to feel peaceful, having been sherished all day long by a sweet breeze in a sunny day...

In general, non Olympic classes are the best if you wish to race for fun; peoples running regattas in such classes are not after a career, they would never kill somebody for not respecting a rule (which hardly happens), they would just politely complain. It is somewhat ironic that this is precisely de Coubertin's dream.

I sail (as the crew) the Snipe with many good friends of the sailing club of Muggia (TS, Italy): Gennaro, Gino, Riccardo, Siilva; and of the "rival" clubs (of which I only mention Annarosa, since she is tough, and could beat me!)

I am now beginning to sail a Contender; I bough a very nice, 25 years old Smith (ITA 144). This boat was part of the fleet of Bracciano lake; it had been abandoned and stayed ruined, until a kind sailor of AVB, Pietro Dalla Torre, decided to restore it. Now the boat, still with its original wooden rudder blade and [deriva], but [armata] in the modern style, is in in very good conditions. Pietro is not sailing the Contender any more, and since he does not like abandoned boats, he sold it to me; and he made me happy.

Luckily. I am not alone on the Contender, in the gulf. There also is Stefano; who knows, perhaps there will be a fleet here.
