The SnipeThe Snipe is a good old popular boat: it might be described as the poorman's Star, though a brand new, competitive, fully equipped Snipe may cost some 15000 euros (good second hand ad 3-4000). It was designed (in the 30's) so to make it possible to anyone, even if not a professional carpenter, to build a wooden hull (today hulls are in fiberglass). It has many fine regulations; it does not have the spi, yet there is a [tangone] to drive the [fiocco: jib?]. The [boma] is quite high, and young sailors dislike it as a boat for elder peoples; but when they give it a try under strong wing, they discover how challenging is to sail a boat without the [trapezio]. Actually it is a rather technical sailboat and with good performance. However, two are the principal reasons why to regard this boat as a goog solution for whoever, young or not, wishes to race [a livello amatoriale]. Firstly, the very good and warm atmosphere among the Snipers (some are sailors of international level); moreover, the class is spread worldwide, from Europe to the Americas.
